Stella Artois

Whenever I took this photograph I knew it would be a perfect picture to use for the wild design assignment. I took this when I was in New York as I was walking down the street with some of my friends. All of us stopped and snapped a picture of it, looking like major tourists, but it was just so cool we couldn’t help ourselves. I feel as if New York is known for the street art and  huge murals on the sides of buildings. This was definitely my favorite mural that I saw during my trip. However, it did seem slightly random to me why a beer company would have the saying “I am ‘I’ll pick you up at LaGuardia’ in love with you” to represent their brand. I did a little bit of research on this and found out that Stella Artois decided to launch a new campaign called “The Life Artois” for valentines day and wanted to use imagery from colorful posters in the 40’s and 50’s. This is such a smart advertising move for Stella Artois because people don’t typically associate beer with valentine’s day, but they found a way to make their beer seem more romantic and in season. Also, I found it interesting because the quote on this wall is clearly directed more at females, which are typically not big beer drinkers. It seems like Stella Artois is trying a rebranding technique to attract more drinkers. Additionally, I found out that Stella Artois painted murals on buildings in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, getting their word and brand out there for everyone to see! I really enjoyed seeing this mural and analyzing it for this class and I hope y’all enjoy it too!
