Michael Ford, Jr. & the Apache Relay
I recently saw the band Michael Ford, Jr. the Apache Relay in concert at the Soapbox in Wilmington, North Carolina on January 16th, 2010. The band, who opened up for Jill Andrews (from the everybodyfields), has only been a group since March of 2009 and have already created a huge buzz among the folk rock world of Nashville, TN. With their music spreading from North Carolina to up and down the East coast, Michael Ford, Jr. & the Apache Relay are on fire. For fans of The Avett Brothers and/or Nickel Creek, you are sure to love these guys and can get their debut album 1988 on iTunes. They will be playing in Chapel Hill this Friday (Jan 22, 2010) at the Local 506 and again here in Raleigh on March 13, 2010 at the Berkeley Cafe. This band has a wonderful excitement, newness, and joy to their music and have a love for being on the road. Be on the lookout for this band in the future. With the words of Michael Ford Jr., who told this to me in person, the band would love to come out with their second album by the fall of 2010. Sun Child

This is pretty interesting to me. I’m a big fan of this sort of counter-corporate music scene which has been becoming more mainstream in the past few years. North Carolina, Tennessee, and surrounding States have been producing some great non-synthesized sounds lately, and it’s really encouraging to people who can’t stand listening to the radio anymore.
